If you have a Facebook page you will have noticed that you can now change your url (domain name address) to a visitor-friendly username (also called a Vanity URL) once you have more than 25 fans.
We wished to change our page for Inspiring Women Online from the usual torturous Facebook address, which has loads of symbols and numbers to simply this: http://www.facebook.com/InspiringWomenOnline
Much more friendly!
However I made a mistake, and I hope you will benefit from it.
Make absolutely certain that you select your fan page FIRST before you choose the username. The selection drop down menu is next to the entry box for the username. I don’t know why I missed this vital selection, but I did, so perhaps others will too.
This meant that I gave the username InspiringWomenOnline to my own profile. You are allowed to change your profile username once, but not a Facebook page url.
I changed my profile username, but now InspiringWomenOnline is no longer available.
A reply from this fabulous resource, Just Ask Kim, suggests that at this time there is no way to change your page username. You only have one chance. However, she has said the name may merely be in limbo and I should be patient and wait.
None the less, please choose carefully and make sure the name of your page is selected first in the dropped down box, to avoid this.
Thanks for sharing this important info Sandy. Very generous of you.
