Q: mailing list management.
From Trish Rodwell: “What is Aweber? Is it a data base? Will I need to upload all data off my data base?”
A: Aweber provides comprehensive mailing list management. What that means is that it provides you the means to make a name capture form from multitude of design templates for your site. Each form is an individual campaign which will capture your request visitor data, most usually just name and email.
You can then tailor an autoresponder series. For example, if you were going to share a monthly tip or technique, you could upload all 12 when you started and time them to go out 30 days after each other. Anyone signing up to receive them, at any time would receive the first one, and then the series would be paced at every 30 days no matter when your visitor signed up.
Of course it is measurable too in terms of who signs up and which emails they opened.
Aweber also provide a number of other services including easy to customize email templates and the ability to automatically blog posts direct to your email list – now that could be a very useful function.
Yes, you can migrate your existing subscriber base if they have opted in to receive information from your previously, although there is a proviso here. It depends on how long ago you received their permission.
If it has been months since you communicated with your database, then technically it could be deemed you no longer have permission to communicate with them. They may only have signed up to receive one piece of information.
Getting permission to communicate for a specific reason is important then as is ensuring that you keep communicating if that is what was agree too.
At any rate this is a vital part of relationship building with your community.

I use Aweber and find it an easy to understand and implement resource for mailing list management. Like many of these platforms, their offer is diverse and most people only tend to use one or two of the functions available. At present, the service I am using is the simple name capture form on this website. However, I will experiment with the ‘blog email list’ option and that success will depend on you and your feedback as to the information you are receiving from me. If it is valuable then this might be a very successful form of communication. I will report back!
This is an affiliate link, which means if you chose to purchase Aweber through that link, I will receive a commission from Aweber for directing them a customer. It does not cost you anymore. I only promote services I use and have found essential to the business of blogging or people who are trustworthy and have taught me a great deal.
